You are reading the first edition! That explains the 2.2 series. I
suggest that you atleast get the second edition that explains things
based on 2.4. I read somewhere that the authors are planning to write
based on 2.6 in the next edition that will be out soon. But don't take
my word for it.
You might as well pick up Robert Love's "Linux Kernel Development". It
is easily avaiable in all leading bookshops here in Chennai. It is a
good book to get started with kernel programming.
