Minutes of ILUGC meeting - 6th March 2004

This meeting was marked by _very_ low attendance. 8 of us
were here at the TeNet building, that too when counted at=20
4 pm.
The proceedings started with Raman's talk on CVS=20
(http://www.cvshome.org/). Raman first spoke about the client
side and then went on to describe the server side of CVS.
CVS or Concurrent Versions System is aimed at making=20
management of source code easier and safer. Giving example=20
of his own experience with CVS, Raman explained that CVS :
- keeps track of all the changes made by developers during
various stages throughout lifetime of the development.=20
- is the perfect tool to use when multiple programmers are=20
working on a project.
- acts as a good backup=20
he explained concepts of repository, checkin, checkout, add,
commit, branching, update, diff, edit, login, logout, remove,
etc.
Siva came with his DVD powerhouse, and played DVDs on linux.
We were searching for the 'Revolution OS' DVD, but no one
had it in the meeting. So we settled for Matrix I & II as well
as the Animatrix. In between, the geeks here discussed about=20
features of Ogle, Xine and mplayer, the various formats they
support, compatibility issues etc. Interesting enough, there
was a discussion of 'fake DVDs' as well!
Before Raman's talk, we had an informal discussion on how to
increase traffic to our monthly meetings, just like our busy
mailinglist. Raman suggested that we have exclussive sessions
for college students, where we would solve their problems on=20
linux. InstallFest is also a good idea. A discussion on this=20
is welcomed.
Raman also declared his creation - GridEntry - during the meet.
