IMO, none of the hard disk partitions should be mounted when changes
are made to it's partition table.
I use System Rescue CD [1] (installed on a USB pen drive). It has
gparted with which you can redistribute the free disk space. You may
have to reinstall GRUB if BOSS was the last OS installed.
