I would like to thank the Computer Science Department - the
students, professors, HOD and Dean, Kongu Engineering College, Erode
for giving me an opportunity to conduct a one-day workshop/seminar
on "GNU/Linux/OSS" on January 17, 2005 (Monday).

It was a pleasure to have you here with us all day, we sure gained
loads.


Special thanks to Arvind Kalyan (final year, CS) who has been
working with me for the past three weeks in meticulously planning
the seminar, and answering my questions. Special thanks goes to the
Management for the good hospitality and stay provided at the guest
house. The infrastructure at your college is
_state-of-the-art_. Thanks for providing all the required facilities
for the seminar.

The following is a quick summary of the workshop events:

Session I: "Careers with GNU/Linux/OSS" (morning) Presentation

Students of KEC, you can get the CD from me if you are unwilling to
download if yourself.

I hope to see our students use your expert advice on how to look at
the subjects for actual industrial purposes and realise their
significance.

Session II: Introduction to device driver programming (morning)
Simple device driver code examples (demo) can be downloaded from:

We all liked your tempo. Was just the right one to grasp the attention
of most of our students.


Session III: Knoppix demo and GNU/Linux installation (afternoon)

We learnt the importance of the various parameters that you pass
during installation. Also the various ways of installation; such as
network installation, etc.


Session IV: Watched the movie, The.Code.Linux.avi (evening)

Students in KEC can get the movie off of our server, if you want you
can download and write it in CC-2.


We shall organize more events in future as a collaboration between
ilugc and Kongu Linux User's Group.
