Hi, I am trying to use OpenSuse 11.2. My on board graphics chip is
K8M890CE/K8N890CE [Chrome 9]. I tried to get the unichrome driver for
opensuse but didn`t find any suitable drive. I also tried the Webpin (
http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ ) , which cannot give me any driver
for my Chrome 9 chip.
Is there any way to get or enable my perfect graphics?
First of all you might want to try 11.3 which was released in July/10.
Many Xorg enhancements have been incorporated into it. For example
the native open source driver for ATI Radeon now supports 3D
acceleration for my laptop's HD 4200 chipset and I am have KDE 4.x
composite and special effects; until 11.2 I had to use ATI's blob
driver to get the same effects.
Also IIRC, Chrome from VIA has not been well supported in Xorg and
neither have I seen VIA release any blob drivers although they claim
Linux support; this was about 18 months ago when I was researching
their embedded boards for an application.
I would suggest the following:
1. Contact VIA support and tell them about your dilemma - (no
assurance of solving your problem). Also next time please research
Linux support for any hardware before buying and save yourself some
time by avoiding chasing such issues.
2. Read this <
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=636206>
(extracted from Google with keywords "xorg driver K8M890CE" - I hope
you had tried it). This might help solve your problem.
3. Put in an external graphics card that is well supported by Xorg.
Most motherboards have a PCI-express slot for external video card,
besides the embedded video controller. (you may get a fully functional
setup with hardware acceleration for 3D)
