Please be a little more verbose about your network environment. Are
you behind a HTTP proxy? Do you configure a HTTP proxy in your web
browser to access the internet?
If that is the case, then Yahoo Messenger support may not work (known
bug in Pidgin). But Google Talk support works if you use the Jabber
server as talk.google.com and port 443. Enable "Force Old SSL" as
well.
