Free Software Foundation, Tamil Nadu, as part of its agenda to take Free
Software to the people, is taking up the ambitious task of creating a distro
aimed primarily at school going children in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu.
The project aims at taking the Sugar interface and customising it to suit
the local needs. This involves developing Tamil applications and translating
the applications which are already present.
We invite all those who are interested in taking the movement to the people
to come forward and join hands with us in this grand endeavor. It is going
to be an exciting challenge where we use technology to solve social
problems.
As the old saying goes, "Technology meets Society" and we being at the
forefront of technology have the unique opportunity to serve the society.
We aim to complete the project by Oct 15th, and hence, a team has to be
formed by September 15th. Please mail us at (punnagai@xxxxxxxxx) telling us
why you are interested in the project. Do not worry about your technical
skills, we have a dedicated team of experts who can help and train you in
developing your skills. All we require is enthusiasm and intent.
Once we come up with the distro, FSF-TN aims to conduct workshops to train
the school teachers (Teach the Teachers) and enable them to work on the
GNU/Linux platform. We are in for some exciting days ahead!! Hope to see you
