Is it true that you have deleted your partitions using
fdisk.Then how you are able to boot into linux.
My question is at present what is the structure of
your partitions...
Have you created the same partition structure as:
Initially I had XP in /dev/hda1.
5 GB space was free in /dev/hda3
/dev/hda4 was 500 MB swap.
/dev/had/5 was mandrake 10.1
/dev/hda6 was swap 500MB.
/dev/hda7 was home directory.
/dev/hda8 wad usr directory.
Or else if you have deleted those /dev/hda5 and
/dev/hda6 /dev/hda7 and /dev/hda8 you have to
reinstall mandrake again.Moreover ME is the most
crappy OS that MS has produced.I prefer XP[enable XP's
default firewall to get rid most viruses and attacks].
I have also played with OSes and partitions but I had
backedup -MBR,partition table and my important
datas...
My advice is that you partition you disk from scratch
and reinstall in the order XP,Mandrake...
And install MDK grub boot loader in the dedicated
partition[/ or /boot based on your choice of
installation].
Later install XOSL...

This space and swap were used for testing of various
linux distros but were not included in the MBR.
/dev/had/5 was mandrake 10.1

This was the original configuration.
Sicne XP was virus prone inspite of having an
antivirus S/W , I decided to install ME and so usinf
fdisk I deleted the logical and extended DOS
partitions and fromatted the C drive and installed
ME in C drive. Automatically the partition table got
changed. To get MDK linux I used the install CD (
first CD) and used the rescue option to reinstall
the boot loader but could not succeed. Then I
downloaded XOSL and installed it. Even after
running XOSL I could not boot linux. This is the
current state. Since I am having some important
files in linux I do not want to reinstall MDK but
wud like to rescue it.
