Hi,
A 5th parameter was added to Php's mail() function
in PHP 4.0.5(but disabled in safe mode since version 4.2.3)
which lets you mention the return-path
mail ($to, $subject, $content, $headers, "-f"."returned@xxxxxxxxxx");
Examples are given in the php manual

You can then do a POP3 check to verify if it bounced or not.
