When you say it didn't work, are you saying it said permission denied
or did you see no output? Or was there any particular error?
Please show us ifconfig output. If you still see the serial link, the
pppd hasn't died/released the ttySx.
Once you are 'sure' that pppd has died, check for the presence of
/var/lock/LCK..ttyS0 file.
Tell us what you find.
1. ps aux | grep pppd
2. ifconfig
3. ls /var/lock/
ps: Out of curiosity I am asking: what's the speed you got? what
handset model? Datacable type? Why not USB port? You get much higher
speeds though USB modems.
