Check if DNS was reachable at those times. Your mail log will also show
errors resolving domains then. Internal emails will work but outgoing
would have problems.
If you are using DNS servers of your ISP, most likely this is the issue.
If the log shows that as the problem, use the likes of OpenDNS servers
for DNS resolution.

Thanks for the tip. Now have changed the DNS Servers from my ISP to Opendns. I
hope this solves my problem.
