gmane also provides 'nntp' access, you can configure your mail
client(I'm using thunderbird) to read posts. Here is what I did.
1. Subscribed to ilugc,
2. loggedin to ilugc account page and disabled mail delivery option.
3. In thunderbird, I opened file->new->account->newgroup account wizard.
4. In subsequent clicks, it will ask for newgroup server, I filled
news.gmane.org and gave account name as 'Gmane'.
5. I got 'Gmane' in the left side panel. right clicked 'Gmane' and in
the context menu, I selected 'subscribe'
6. A little search for 'ilugc' and found the 'gmane' address of ilugc.
Also attached it to sidepanel.
7. Now I'm reading 'ilugc' post through thunderbird (using 'gmane'
servers). If we want to reply to a post, click reply and send the mail
to the 'gmane' address of ilugc. First time gmane will send an alert
mail saying that you must be subscribed to the original mailing list.
Reply yes to gmane. Your mail will appear within 3 to 5 min in the
mailing-list.
I think most of the modern mail clients have newsgroup reader. AFAIK,
'gmane.org' is the only site which is giving 'nntp' access to their
servers. I don't know much about 'nntp' but people used/using it to read
usenet posts.
