is the sound card a pci thing or is it onboard?

Any one could give me solution to solve the problem:
I have recently purchased PIV with HT and the board
is D865 GBF/D865 GLC. I recently installed PCQuest
Linux 2004. The OS did not detect the sound card.
The following are the errors it says:
Informational - artsmessages--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error while initializing the sound
driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No
such device)
The sound server will continue, using
the null output device.
