1. How effective are these campaigns to map Indian locations?

work? (Red cross volunteers using it for Haiti Earthquake was what started
off my interest in OSM)
There are 2 ways to look at effectiveness of campaigns. Direct use of data
created by these campaigns into relief works. Realistically it might be
low, but there is a some goodness in improving free / open map data of that
region is a long term contribution to that region which got affected.
3. Are there any sites/apps that rely on the OSM open data or HOTOSM
initiatives? (Indian context)
Riskmap[1] is project supported by MIT UrbanRISKLab, that was born out
Chennai Flood map[2][3]. This was possible in first place because Chennai
was largely mapped to finest of detail (better than Google I would say) and
the task of flood mapping was just to overlay flooding information.
@Shrini sir, I think you are still involved in OSM community, can you shed
some light?
HOTOSM / effectiveness in Indian context are best discussed at
talk-in@opensteetmap where (many more) people who are involved can give
their insights.
