Dear all,
A two days faculty development programme on FOSS was organised by Dept. of
Computer Applications, Valliammai Engineering College on 28/06/12 &
29/06/12.
Faculty members from various institutions attended the FDP. The total no.
of participants was about 35.
The session started with FOSS introduction and continued with
installation. All participants were busy installing Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on
their desktops remotely (through FOSS lab server). More than 80 Ubuntu
12.04 DVDs were provided to the participants and staff members of the
college.
An introduction was given about the equivalent applications available in
Ubuntu. After installation, they were introduced to package management
system using apt, tasksel, synaptic and also the default Ubuntu software
centre. The participants tried installing many popular applications from
the local ubuntu repository.
The second day, Mr.Shrinivasan gave an introduction to Python programming
and also about version control system using Subversion with a live demo
using Collabnet SVNEdge.
