how much of an effort is to move from kernel 2.6.5(default in fedora

If you move from one fedora kernel to another
nothing should break.
If you use a vanilla kernel you download off
kernel.org all bets are off -
fedora kernels are heavily patched and customized.
Lots of stuff will still work but random failures
here and there are a likely
result if you run an app that expected a kernel
patch to be there when it isnt
- or when you had supermount enabled in the fedora
kernel so that any CD you
insert shows up on your gnome desktop, but not when
you compile your vanilla
kernel ..
