Some of these devices do come with software which can be used out of the
box to solve simple use case scenarios. These software are almost always
not available for Linux systems. I have had this problem with a bar code
printer. The printer came with `open` protocols, but a very important
label design utility was Windows only. We had to design the labels in a
Windows box and then use the file created in a Linux based system where the
bigger application was running.
