Irrespective of Linux distributions that you work with,
I would recommend the following command-line tools
instead of graphical download managers:
- GNU WGet
http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/
- cURL
http://curl.haxx.se/
- LFTP
http://lftp.yar.ru/
- NcFTP
http://www.ncftp.com/ncftp/
These tools are proven to be stable and give you
more control (you can run them in background without
the need of GUI). You can configure your web browser
to invoke the above downloaders within an xterm or
better yet, within a GNU Screen session.
These tools are most likely to be included with major
Linux distributions to work almost out-of-the-box.
I haven't checked on FC 7 yet - but I guess it should
be bundled with it.
I've tried many graphical download managers/plugins
for web browsers and have found them to be at large,
un-reliable/buggy and they fail to give me enough
control.
