I am not sure what issue you are facing in your Linux installation. If
u can be specific about the problem may be we can try and help you.
You can always learn more by troubleshooting the present problem than
doing fresh install. If you want to do Kernel recompilation the u will
need kernel sources. which will be there in /usr/src .

You can go far RH9 or FC1 both 2.4 Kernel based Distro.
I have suggestion that the link to CD for Grabs can be add to
singnature of all emails. It might be very useful.
