Hi Gurus,
I'm testing a tool in vmware.
I need to simulate 3 networks.
I need a routing equipment to route the pockets. So I?m planning to use Linux
as router along with iptable. So I want to build a Linux image (a much as small
possible). I want to run that Linux image like Knopix Cd.
Is there any way to build the Linux image only with iptable support (or the
depended modules).

We're having some trouble on the server using Fedora core 1. There are a lot of
cdk* files in the /tmp directory. It is a Live Server.

Also, the web service stopped. I could not stop it or start it. I had to reboot
the server. I have never seen anything like this before...

Following are the files are creating in /tmp folder

I have created a cron job to delete this file every an hour. Please give some
permenant solution to solve this error.

Apache means its a perl or php script on your server that is creating these

Given you are running fedora core 1 its probably completely unupdated
and you've been hacked .. or you have a badly and insecurely written
script on your server that a spammer has broken into and is using it to
send spam

Or maybe its a badly written script after all and its just going on
eating up resources on your system.

Cant tell without looking at the server but you'd have to be crazy to
run a fc1 server unpatched on a public IP open to the internet ..

Do you have any webapps running on this box? Anything PHP-based? With
the information you have given, it is tough to diagnose. Have you
looked at the apache logs? Your load average is pretty high, and 52%
of your CPU is taken by Apache. It could be that you are rooted, but
hard to say with the available information.

Run rpm -Va and look for the telltale signs.

I have installed FC5 in HP nx6120 laptop. When I update the package
through yum, I get error message of "Header is not complete". I am
behind a corporate firewall. Yum home page suggest the following:

Q. 5: I get an "[Errno -1] Header is not complete." error from yum -
what the heck is going on?

A. It's probably a proxy somewhere between you and the repository. You
may not think that a proxy is in the way even though it really is.

You can try doing a "trace" with this command:

echo -e "TRACE / HTTP/1.1\nHost: yum-server.example.com\n\n" | nc
yum-server.example.com 80

Which should give you some more information about the network between
you and the repository. Also, be sure to replace
yum-server.example.com with whatever your yum repository server is.
Another diagnosis step is to get the box off of that network (not
always entirely possible, but port forwarding, VPN, or dialup can
simulate the experience) and see if you still have the problem.

The solutions to this problem are:
1. Get your proxy software/firmware updated so that it properly
implements HTTP 1.1
2. Use an FTP repository, where byte ranges are more commonly
supported by the proxy
3. Create a local mirror with rsync and then point your yum.conf to
that local mirror
4. Don't use yum

I found that it is because of firewall. No chance of firmware update
on firewall. I can't mirror the entire repository (restricted
bandwidth for me). Except myself nobody uses Linux in our office. Can
any one suggest me FTP repository of FC5? or any other solution?

Hi guys,
I have a very unique problem and would be grateful if you could help me fix
it.
I have a FC5 x86_64 distro which was existing peacefully with Windows XP in
dual boot using grub. Then recently someone re-installed windows XP for some
reason, and it re-ordered the partitions. Then grub-install failed saying it
could not read /boot/grub/stage1. I read somewhere that this could be due to
wrong fstab entries.
Hence I did the dumbest thing, I renamed fstab. Now I can't even get into my
linux root using the rescue cd. It says no linux installation found.
The problem is that the / is located in a logical volume group, which is
/dev/hda6 . I have tried everything and can't mount it. If I can find a way
to mount it I can get things back to normal

I know this is big but please help as I have important data to be recovered
and urgently.
