This is not the way to answer.
i bet you, every gsoc students asked the same question on the first day.
"What is" is the first step to reach anything.
If you dont know to explain, please be polite.

Please dont discourage the budding experts.
I did not discourage. What I asserted was correct. If the OP needs to post to a
mailing list and wait for an answer, he/she has not yet mastered the beautiful
art of the google. Which in turn implies that he/she has a long way to go
before
worrying about the relevance of GSoC to his/her life.
That's all that i said.
While it is good to be polite at times, utter laziness (which is what the OP
displayed) is not something to be rewarded with polite replies. This is not
some
school for the betterment of retarded induhviduals ! If one has mastered the
skills required to subscribe to a mailing list and send out a mail, then the
only explanation for the behavior of the OP was laziness.
Ignoring that and feeding the OP the answer to the question just rewards this
behavior.
