[Ilugc] kernel 2.6.18 boot problem: error 6

Then, how come you saw ext3 in lsmod?

inbuilt (shown as [*] in menuconfig) - but couldnt
find ext3.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.18/kernel/fs

So, basically it has not been installed, or not
compiled at all. 

Can you check in your kernel sources, fs/ext3/ to see
if there is an ext3.ko module?

2)make O=/home/km/custon_kernel 

This should have failed then, if ext3 was enabled and
not compiled.
ya that is what it looks like. i dont have ext3 dir in /lib/modules/2.6.18/fs 
after installing kernel.
.config shows ext3 fs to be compiled as an inbuilt module.
is that something odd going on at compilation ?
