[Ilugc] need help

I need help to detect my modem.
I am using dialup usb-modem(BSNL).
Supported in XP OS.
But not detect in Ubuntu 8.04 , only detect the usb port number where the usb 
modem is connected.
Details viewed through XP OS.

Name? : VIA Telecom CBS USB Modem#2.
Version : 1.3.16.0
Driver profile : VIA Telecom Inc.
Please help me to detect this usb modem in Ubuntu.
