Hi try this its works for me
edit file lsb-release
*sudo vim /etc/lsb-release*
update grub
*sudo update-grub*
*
*
Then re login server thro ssh there welcome screen shows the updated name
with linux version.I have tried to install software it doesn`t affect the
installation.

I think it should be grub.cfg file otherwise check the *grub* file
path in Ubuntu 11
if it grub.cfg then follow this...
*sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg*
or
*sudo vi /boot/grub/grub.cfg*
