The penguin is Linux's logo and was designed by Larry Ewing. The logo
is available under a completely feel-free-to-do-whatever-you-want
term... and hence it has mutated into multiple forms (like the scary
penguins for distros like Yellow Dog Linux and such). GNU has its own
logo and its got its own reasons behind it.
