[jawsscripts] Re: Hotspot clicker and Ggraphics in windows 8.1

Extensive experimentation I did across a few projects recently shows
one possibility, though it's not pretty in some cases:

1. Require JAWS 16 or newer.

2. Use only UIA coordinates, because Windows seems to translate those
for JAWS 16.

JAWS 16 is the first "DPI aware" JAWS version, so it can tell windows
to do that. I don't know if things like getWindowRect(),
getWindowLeft(), etc., translate; but I know that MSAA coordinates
from o.accLocation() do not get translated.

All this is for applications that are not DPI aware. I don't know yet
what happens in a DPI aware application in JAWS 16 or in older JAWS
versions.

And, of course, the question from my perspective is, is there anything HSC
can do to detect and compensate for that?

HSC and other scripts that rely on pixel coordinates can fail on
high-resolution laptops running Windows 7 or 8.x. The reason is a bit messy
to explain but has to do with changes in the coordinate system resulting
from the high screen resolution. I've always assumed that lowering the
screen resolution would fix this on such machines, but I have not tested
that theory.

So yes, if you can, try it out before committing.

I do not use HotSpot Clicker.
However I would caution that applications that JAWS relies on its OSM to use
may not work the same in Win 8.1. Some do, many seem not to in my
experience.
Unfortunately you'll have to try your application.

Subject: [jawsscripts] Hotspot clicker and Ggraphics in windows 8.1

Hi all,
I am contemplating buying a new laptop with windows 8.1. Any major issues
with Jaws in 8.1? Specifically with graphics recognition and the use of
Hotspot clicker? I use an application for D.J'ing that I have scripted and
also make use of HSC. I am currently using Jaws 15 on windows 7. I am
trying to decide if I should stay with win 7 or move to 8.1? any
thoughts???
THANKS!!!
