The problem is that the manual is extremely old, and it doesn't exactly use
best practices. If you compare some of the functions/scripts in the fs sdk
to the methods used to manipulate screen details, they conflict. Another
note is that (at least the last I remember), the basics manual doesn't show
you how to grap and manipulate screen objects such as addons, windows,
controls or text based on the control type/ID and MSAA info (if present).
This is where I am running into a problem trying to figure this stuff out.

Have you read the Basics of Scripting yet, and worked through the examples?
Go to Jaws, Explore Jaws, and hit ENTER on Explore the Manuals. In the
folder which opens, hit ENTER on Basics of Scripting.
