Hi John,
If nothing works at all, it is likely a problem on the Java applications
side, and you'll be hard pressed fixing it with scripts. There are
basically two UI tookits that can be used for Java accessibility, one is
SWT, the other is Java Swing. You might want to contact the vendor of the
software, and see if they can help you. If they've used custom Swing
components, they should be able to fix the accessibility relatively easily.
If not, you might want to look towards another product. Java is not the
most accessible tech out there, unfortunately. SWT should be accessible out
of the box, so I think you can rule out that one, although custom SWT
components might suffer from the same problem.

tried this about 10 years ago with very limited success. Back then I
believe I had to modify the default scripts to get anything to work.
Also, I recently encountered a Java app called IMS which is a database used
within prisons. I enabled the Java Access Bridge but Jaws still could not
interact with the app. Neither the pc cursor or the Jaws cursor could read
any text on the screen and Jaws did not know where the focus was located.

assumed, and Freedom tech support confirmed, that this was probably the
result of Oracle's Swing Set of widgets not being used in the app. Does
that sound right or am I missing something? I'd appreciate any insights to
Jaws & Java app scripting.
