Hi Jackie,  I was able to silence the chatter from the child window through the 
new text e vent.

Tom, I have 3 suggestions for u.
1) Where I always start in a situation like this is in the program
options. See if there's a way not to view this particuar window. Works
every time if in place.
2) Make a frame around the window, & set the frame to echo-silent.

If those don't work, then the NewTextEventShouldBeSilent function
should likely be invoked for that particular window. Since I don't
know the app you're working with, I can't really discuss procedures
for how to do that.
