Hey I played around with this a while back and it took me a while to find
things. In quick settings there is a setting for indentation and the default
is off. And apparently the classic view that is the default. Its appart of the
speech and scheme profile area.
Sorry that about all I know I had turned it on once when I was doing some
python scripting. Because python is so formatted dependent.

Hi,
I know the symptoms, but I have not yet spotted why. JAWS thinks that every
line starts at the margin even though I can see that the lines are indented,
and I can tell that the characters are spaces, and I have verified that they
are ASCII character 32. My conclusion is that JAWS must be looking somehow
before where the cursor is able to go to and seeing characters. Any thoughts?
My next move is going to be to see if I can change a VS Code setting.
