Wow Jackie, your a champion JAWS knower!  That's exactly where it was!
fixed it! turning off Enhanced Edit support in text processing dialog did 
the trick.
Disabling the Use Virtual PC in Advanced dialog didn't seem to do anything, 
but your link to the Enhanced edit component, which I've absolutely no idea 
how you connected with the Use Virtual Cursor component,, but, that's sure 
where the problem was. I've now unchecked the "enhanced Edit support" 
checkbox,
and whala!  Alt+delete once again now reports that PC cursor, not virtual pc 
cursor, is active, and subsequently gives the pc cursor's position.
