[jawsscripts] Re: disappearing graphics in the JAWS OSM

Off the top of my head, I have found the following all to have an
impact on when and how reliably or consistently JAWS can detect a
graphic and assign it a consistent CRC value:

- Screen resolution (desktop area).
- Color depth.
- Video driver (maybe).
- A screen refresh (Ins+Esc), which can make a graphic appear or disappear from
the JAWS view.
- How large the graphic is, in either dimension.
- How close the graphic is to other color changes on screen.
- Whether the mouse pointer is touching the graphic, as this can actually
change some graphics.
- How much impact the graphic's dimensions or position have on JAWS' concept of
the character baseline for the line containing the graphic.

That's enough variables to make me resist relying on graphic
recognition whenever possible.

Hi Gian,
That's exactly the JAWS buggy OSM thing I was talking about before.

your experience I have seen paralleled here a hundred times. you get
differnt results to, if you use different JAWSVid.dll video hook file
versions as well. some can see stacks of graphics and stuff with the jaws
cursor, and others, can just blatently see heaps less! it's a total mes in
my view, which
was why I was cautioning you against over utilization of finding graphics,
for reliable spotting of applications with hsc.

I've got a jawsVid.dll version here that shipped with jaws6.2, I forget what
version number the jawsvid.dll is now, but you can see it in the second
control Tab if you
hit altEnter on these files, and I remember doing a really indepth report to
fs once, about how when this particular jawsvid.dll file was loaded, jaws
could see/identify stacks more graphics with the jaws cursor, than it could
with another derevation/version of this jawsvid file.

I don't know the total answer for you, as to what fs thinks about this, or
how much it knows or cares,
but I would totally encourage you to write to eric about this at,

Edamery@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ericdfs

and ask him? tell im the problem and why it is so irksome and unreliable for
this to be the case, and ask for his thoughts.

but, at least to give some modicum of comfort to know that your not going
crazy, and your not alone in this experience, and it is very non-optimal and
frustrating in my view too.

Subject: [jawsscripts] Graphic question for Geoff and all

> Hi,
> I single out Geoff because I am using HSC, but everyone's input would be
appreciated.
> Why do graphics sometimes disappear as far as jaws is concerned, but then
come back. In my scratchLive application graphics sometimes disappear. If
you do a screen refresh or if you click the graphic, then Jaws can see them
again. And some graphics are never able to be seen by Jaws. I am now a
beta tester for ScratchLive so I want to be able to tell them about this
problem. Is this a jaws bug, or do you think it has to do with the way
ScratchLive is written?
