Dude, there is no co-relation between inventions and source code.
It has to deal with patents and other things.

Source which was developed as part the developing new things can be released
under FOSS or can be closed source. but you can anyway re-develop the same
application and put under the FOSS license.

I do not think think these are new things. All you need to be a super code
in OpenCV and Image processing. All you need to track finger movement.
BUT believe me, This will be a failful invention. If we put our fingers on
mouse, it rests on mouse surface. If we lift our fingers in air, we need to
put extra force on nerves. in long run it may lead to injury
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury .

Well the coding such projects is very simple. Let me give the idea.

Put Red and Green on white surface.
Just search for OpenCV code for image reading in pixel format from webcam.
You can track the location on red and green pixel. when you will put a
finger on red circle the number of red pixel will decrease. You can put a
threshold to detect the click.

PS: I think Kartik is over hyped.
