The ideology, pioneered by the development of the free and open source software movement, has found considerable following in a variety of other fields, one of which is drug discovery. Open Source Drug Discovery (OSDD), a research consortium based in India, is one of the groups spearheading this developmental philosophy, encouraging research in the spirit of free and open source software. Their ambition is to provide affordable health services for all by developing better treatment for diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria that are often neglected by big medical companies. Professor Samir K. Brahmachari is the Chief Coordinator and Mentor for the OSDD. He is a biophysicist and the former Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). He holds the distinction of being awarded numerous national and international honours, and was named as one of the 25 Most Valuable Indians by The Week magazine in 2009.* ‘GNU/Linux’, ‘Firefox’ and ‘Wikipedia’ have taken the electronic world by storm, and the field of drug discovery seems primed for such a revolution. Do not miss out on this opportunity to hear from one of the pioneers of an idea that could lead to very real and tangible benefits in India as well as around the world.* Regards, FSFTN & Extra Mural Lectures Team,2013-'14 _______________________________________________ Mailinglist mailing list Mailinglist@xxxxxxxxx http://fsftn.org/mailman/listinfo/mailinglist_fsftn.org
