Indian Linux Users Group, Chennai [ ILUGC ] has been spreading awareness on
Free/Open Source Software (F/OSS) in Chennai since January 1998.
We will be organizing this month's meet through ILUGC's Official IRC
channel (#ilugc in freenode.net).
If Visual Presentation required, we will use https://meet.jit.si ;(Link
will be provided in #ilugc irc channel at the time of meet by the
speaker who is willing to show visual content)
We usually meet on the second Saturday of every month, and for the
month of October we shall meet through IRC on Saturday 10, 2020 at 1500
IST.

Talk 1:
Topic: Introduction to Device Mapper
Description: In this talk we will get introduced to the Device Mapper
framework in Linux kernel, how it is used for various purposes like
LVM, dm-crypt, software RAID etc. We will have a simple demo utilizing
Device Mapper using kpartx tool to mount partitions from a single .img
file.

Topic: Profiling with BPFTrace
Description:
BPF is a kernel feature that allows us to monitor some events
happening inside the Linux kernel.
It was initially used for packet filtering. But it has been extended
into an observability and profiling tool.
BPF can be used to answer questions like
- What is the average latency of a particular kernel function?
- How many times does a system call get called in a time interval?
- What is the stack trace when inside a particular kernel function?
BPFtrace is a tool that makes it easier to write BPF code.
In this talk, I'll give a brief introduction to BPF and show a demo of
using BPFtrace for tracing.
