We'd like to know if this would interest you! We are collaborating with JRuby project. Charles Nutter and Thomas Enebo of JRuby have been instrumental in crafting the SoC idea. Note that they are a part of the Google SoC too. Various members of the JRuby team are interested in mentoring students in these potential projects among others: - enhancing JIT bytecode generation - building a new internal object representation - Fiddle library atop either Ruby FFI (in Ruby) or jnr-ffi (in Java). - Native date implementation to match 1.9.3 - Native pathname implementation to match 1.9.3 - Ripper support in parser These projects vary widely in scope and difficulty. For example, Charlie described the Ripper support project this way: "this would be a hard one...need someone really excellent with parsers." Folks from C42 and the JRuby team will work with you to come up with a project plan if you're selected. We're planning to run the SoC from June to July -- but we're flexible, since different Universities have different summer vacation schedules. We have capacity for three students. Each student will earn INR 15,000/mo for 2 months. Let us know whether you're interested. We can talk!
