I enjoyed it but struggled with the modern-day parts of the novel for most of it -- they just weren't very interesting, and I didn't much like or care for George Poole.

The stuff in Ancient Rome was fascinating, if a little far-fetched, and the world-building was brilliant as always. I appreciated that, once again, Baxter didn't shy away from making dramatic choices and changes -- he's great at burning down what he's built.
