Started reading MANHOOD: HOW TO BE A BETTER MAN--OR JUST LIVE WITH ONE by Terry Crews on 2017-12-25.

Finished today 2017-12-29.

I didn't really enjoy it. I haven't read many biographies, but this one fell pretty flat for me. The writing was quite pedestrian and could have really benefited from either a ghost-writer or a brutal editor.

It seems to me that a great biography would be either beautifully written, filled with relatable, interesting anecdotes (anecdota?), or deeply moving. This was none of these -- it fell very much on the "tell" side of things instead of the "show" side. Crews is pretty open about what he's done, and his past, but goes to great pains to lay out the philosophy he now lives by. He could have done that just as effectively without the very linear, somewhat dull recounting of his life backing it up.

I realise that, as a reader, I'm supposed to see him earn these lessons, but I didn't feel that was achieved -- the lessons could have been imparted with about the same effectiveness on their own.
