Jennifer—
Glad you punched in after I punched out. Guess the raptors were sleeping in .

I took the evening “shift” and had many of the same birds that David saw, but
missed out on the Chipping Sparrow and Cinnamon Teal. Additions to the list for
me were a light morph Broad-winged Hawk (with a full crop) flying low overhead,
a Cooper’s (also full crop), and a Cooper’s/Sharpie, Robins, and male Spotted
Towhee.

Spring has sprung. With the bountiful rains of last week, water was still
moving through the outlet in the north lake. Breezy day, the park beautiful in
the foliage of new spring. A circular walk produced the following:
Collared Dove (in “shoot-me-now” numbers)
White-winged Dove (cluster near G-A Center)
Mourning Dove (pair)
House Finch (1)
Audubon’s Warbler (2-3)
Red-winged Blackbird (abundant)
Great-tailed Grackle (a plethora)
Mallard (c. 9)
Blue-winged Teal (either multiple groups or fast movers; in any case several)
Shoveler (pair)
American Coot (3)
Starling (several)
Mockingbird
Blue Jay (1)
Rock Pigeons (3)
Chipping Sparrow (1)
And, the find of the morning—a male Cinnamon Teal, in company with a single
male Blue-wing.
Notable was the absence of raptors of any sort, or of swallows, or of waders
(though in their case the high water level and absence of mud flats are
explanatory).
