Subject: [leasbirds] An interesting turtle

Greetings All:

By far the most interesting creature encountered today: three False Map Turtles
(one of which I photographed before they plunged off of their log into the
river just below Lake Six). This identification was confirmed by Lee Hoy and
by Troy (or Toby) Hibbits - both authorities on Texas reptiles.

My belief is that these turtles got here via human agency (the closest
documented 'native' population is along the Red River drainage - well to our
east and not well connected to the Brazos River drainage) and would love to
know which pet owner or pet store decided to dump these critters here.

I will send the photograph to anybody who is interested.
