The lure was too great :) We went by Tech Terrace to look for the Broad-winged
Hawks that Bill Wenthe has been reporting and we were not disappointed! When we
first parked, 3 were soaring overhead going S to N along Flint. They quickly
disappeared and we found a kettle of vultures to the N with a hawk among them,
too distant to ID though. Moments later a Swainson’s flew over and then a
Broad-winged. The Broad-winged circled low for a bit and put on a show :) It
flew low over the trees to the south and we walked the alley to look for it,
accidentally flushing it. Don’t walk the alley, it’s too close to where it
perches. Walk 23rd instead and look towards the N (22nd). We got beautiful
looks of it from the street (23rd) with just binoculars and it wasn’t worried
about us from there. Thanks to Bill for posting about these great hawks and I
apologize for momentarily flushing one :/
