Greetings All:

As breeding bird surveys and travel used up every weekend day of the month,
I had no opportunity to chase critters along the Canyon Lakes of Lubbock
during June. I rectified that this morning with fifteen minutes at Mae
Simmons Park, fifteen minutes driving along Lake Six, and three hours
hiking the riparian and upland areas below Lake Six.

Highlights from Mae Simmons Park: 1 Cackling Goose, 3 Canada Geese, 2
Yellow-crowned Night Herons, and 1 singing Carolina Wren.

Highlights from the hike below Lake Six: 1 Ring-necked Pheasant, 1 Cattle
Egret, 7 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, and 8 Dickcissels (fairly common in the
region in wet years but sightings within Loop 289 are pretty good).
