From what I read they’re long distance migrants, migrating during the day in
large flocks. Wonder if the storms grounded them the last couple days and they
sought cover in the city.

Great sighting this morning. After the worst if the storm had passed this
morning (but it was still raining) we ventured out to get breakfast and just
south our house at about the intersection of 9th and Salem, in the sky there
was a huge flock of Common Nighthawks swirling around in a flock of about 40
birds. I have never seen this many nighthawks together at one time.
