Greetings All:
I spent a half day in Floyd County - before high winds moved in and I fled
home. When I left winds were around 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph,
and things I saw in flight or rolling along the ground were; tumbleweeds
everywhere (no biggie), a large galvanized metal trash can (now, that has
to be dodged), and - goodness gracious - most of a shed roof sliding across
a road in front of me and then tumbling end-over-end across a cotton field
(when the roofs start aflyin' Anthony starts afleein').
The county is still very much afflicted by drought and highlights were
scarce but I did see 1 Ring-necked Pheasant northeast of South Plains, 2
Least Sandpipers at the FM 378 x FM 2286 Playa, 1 Greater Yellowlegs at the
FM 378 x FM 2286 Playa, 1 Eastern Phoebe at the CR 76 x FM 1065 Woodlot, 2
Eastern Phoebes at the Los Lingos Creek crossing of FM 1065, 1 Say's Phoebe
near CR 120 x FM 378, 1 Say's Phoebe at the FM 378 x FM 2286 Playa, 1
Common Raven near Cedar Hill, 2 Eastern Bluebirds at the FM 207 x White
River crossing, 32 Mountain Bluebirds near Cedar Hill, 1 Townsend's
Solitaire at the Caprock Canyon State Park Trailway, 18 Lapland Longspurs
near Cedar Hill, and 12 McCown's Longspurs northeast of South Plains.
The day saw the addition of four species to my Floyd County list for the
year (Least Sandpiper, marsh Wren, Townsend's Solitaire, Brown Thrasher).
