Drew Harvey got some great photos, don't know how he spotted the Whooping Crane
while driving down the highway.
His message did get us out of the house. We had no luck locating the Whooping
Crane.
We saw thousands of Sandhills, a few thousand on the west side of the pond
called Skeen, about 5 miles south of Tahoka. Some were lighter in color, but
no Whooper.
In the pond was the biggest flock of American Coots we have seen, easily more
than 100 in one big group.
Driving the dirt roads around the one mile square surrounding the area, we did
stir up a Roadrunner, so it made for a quick but entertaining trip.
Next time we will take my pickup, the roads are not really meant for my car.
