Somehow I missed that an immature Great Black Hawk was seen at South Padre
Island back in April and didn't know anything about it until I read an
Audubon article last week. In case anyone else was oblivious, like me, it
appears that the same hawk is now in Portland, Maine. It was spotted in
southern Maine in August and has been in Portland since late November.
Attached are two pictures from yesterday. It is a beautiful bird! It seems
to be doing well and has even started molting.
