Greetings All:
I spent several hours in Floyd County yesterday, picking up on early spring
migrants and mourning the loss of two more playas on my regular route. I
am, currently, down to one playa near the intersection of FM 37 and FM 378
and water treatment ponds in the western half of the county and I doubt
last night's drizzle did much to help!
Yesterday's sole Lubbock County highlight was a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
on the western outskirts of Idalou.
I didn't run across anything particularly notable during my crossings of
Crosby County.
Floyd County kicked out 2 Blue-winged Teals at the FM 37 x FM 378 Playa, 3
Cinnamon Teals at the FM 37 x Fm 378 Playa, 1 Inca Dove in Floydada, 7
Turkey Vultures at Plains Baptist Assembly, 1 Swainson's Hawk south of
Lockney, 1 Merlin west of Floydada, I Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at Plains
Baptist Assembly, 2 Say's Phoebes at Plains Baptist Assembly, 1 Say's
Phoebe south of Lockney, 1 male Vermilion Flycatcher at Plains Baptist
Assembly, 1 Ash-throated Flycatcher at Plains Baptist Assembly, 2 Common
Ravens at the White River crossing of FM 207, 2 Purple Martins at Plains
Baptist Assembly, 2 Cave Swallows west of Floydada, 3 Barn Swallows north
of Floydada, 7 Barn Swallows at Plains Baptist Assembly, 4 Barn Swallows
west of Floydada, 2 Rock Wrens at Plains Baptist Assembly, 2 Canyon Wrens
at Plains Baptist Assembly, 4 Eastern Bluebirds at Plains Baptist Assembly,
1 Townsend's Solitaire at Plains Baptist Assembly, 1 Hermit Thrush at
Plains Baptist Assembly, 1 Clay-colored Sparrow at Plains Baptist Assembly,
1 Swamp Sparrow at Plains Baptist Assembly, and 1 Fox Sparrow at Plains
Baptist Assembly.
Not a bad day, given brutally drought-stricken conditions, with some
relatively early sightings.
