Greetings All: I took a six hour ramble across Floyd, Hale, and Lamb Counties earlier today - mostly in search of longspurs. Incidental highlights from Crosby County: 1 Rough-legged Hawk and 3 McCown's Longspurs near Cone. Highlights from Floyd County: 1 Rock Wren, 1 Canyon Wren, 2 Bewick's Wrens, and 2 Eastern Bluebirds at the Highway 207 crossing of White River; 2 Wilson's Snipes and 1 Swamp Sparrow at Eagle's Hall Park; 2 Lapland Lonspurs and 7 Chestnut-collared Longspurs along CR 202 between Highway 70 and FM 378; 1 Merlin just east of the Floyd/Hale County line on FM 784. Highlights from Hale County: 1 Ring-necked Pheasant and 1 Rough-legged Hawk at the Muleshoe NWR property off of FM 784; 1 Say's Phoebe, 4 Lapland Longspurs, and 16 McCown's Longspurs along FM 789 south of Highway 70. Highlights from Lamb County: 2 Greater White-fronted Geese, 3 Snow Geese, 1 male Cinnamon Teal, and 2 Greater Yellowlegs at the Olton Playa; 1 immature Golden Eagle high above the Lamb County Sandhills Historical Marker; 1 Bewick's Wren at the LCSHM; 1 female Rusty Blackbird in a huge, mixed flock of blackbirds at the intersection of Highway 385 and CR 212; 3 American Pipits at a park in Littlefield.
