Thank you Justin and Anthony for reporting these birds and how to get to the
playa. They were both lifers.

Greetings All:
Whilst successfully chasing the breeding plumage, female Hudsonian Godwit
earlier reported by Justin Bosler at the Bison Road Playa (southeast of
Levelland) I took several shots of some 'curlews' along the back of the
playa. It turned out that all nine of my 'curlews' were in fact Whimbrels -
the first time I have ever seen this many in my region.
To reach the Bison Road Playa take Highway 114 to Levelland. On the eastern
outskirts of Levelland turn south on Alamo Road, proceed to where the road
goes from paved to dirt and turn east on Bison Road. The playa is on the
north side of Bison Road. Recent rains have made the ditches rather squishy
- park safely - don't get stuck.
I will post a full list of highlights later but this was just a break from a
busy day of yardwork - must get back to sod-busting now:)
I have three hummingbirds in my yard today - two species - turning out,
despite the omnipresent wind, to be a darn good day!
