David - I have been wondering the same thing! I haven’t figured it out. Some
people think it’s a spider, but I think it might be some other kind of insect.
But I am really bad at identifying bugs. If anybody wants a higher resolution
picture, send me your email address, and I’ll happily oblige. -Holly

So what is the critter the Curlew is eating? Kinda looks like a spider, but
it’d be a big one. Anyone figure out the species?

Thanks so much for the note about the long-billed curlew at Earl Crow Park
yesterday, Danny!
Here is a series of pics of it using its feet for leverage, successfully
grabbing a snack, and tossing it down the hatch! :)

The Long-billed Curlew was very cooperative and photogenic, walking about in
the field near the intersection of 88th St and Boston Ave.
On the way, we stopped for a traffic signal on Quaker at S. Loop 289. In the
Parkway alongside Quaker were 4 Inca Doves.
